Caffeinated Miracles

Monday was my first day back at work after vacation, and I knew it'd be tough leaving Little Miss. I tried to get a white chocolate mocha on my way to work to make up for the injustice of it all, but failed miserably. (long story, boiling down to a new Starbucks location in a busy downtown area, too many gates, and no legal place to park!)

This morning, however, I had to take Little Miss to her Nana's house, so I was able to swing by my usual Starbucks location afterward. I've been looking forward to it since last night when I realized I could go. I decided after leaving Little Miss at Nana's that I would spring, for the first time ever, for the Grande size instead of the cheaper Tall size.

I wove through the drive through, ordered, got to the window after waiting behind several cars, and the barista at the window asked what I had again. I repeated my order (grande, non-fat, white chocolate mocha, no whip) and she rolls her eyes. "That's what I told the girl in front of you, but she insisted that was hers. I'm so sorry, I gave away your drink. I'll get another one started right away."

I shrugged. "Okay." No biggie. Life happens. I was just still excited to get a mocha at all today. She then says as I hand over my debit card - "It's on the house. We're sorry for the trouble."

I beam. "Thanks!" I replace the debit card in my wallet.

She disappears inside the window again and comes back with a grimace. "Whoops. Yours is actually coming up next. Turns out the girl in front of you really did order the same exact drink."

I shrug again. "Okay." And hand back over the debit card. No biggie. Life happens.

She hesitates, then smiles and pushes it away. "It's okay. It's still on the house."

Now I'm really excited, and she hands me my drink with a wink. "I think a miracle just happened here."

I heartily agree as I drive away, happily sipping my large, FREE white chocolate mocha.

It's the little things in life, isn't it? I think its just so neat that the ONE day I decide to spring for the more expensive size, despite probably not needing to, God gives it to me for free. I feel like I've been handed my morning drink by the Lord Himself. It makes me even more thankful for the free gifts He gives me daily - laughs with my family, sugars from my babygirl, hugs from my husband, health and food and shelter...and of course, the ultimate gift of salvation.

Please stop and look for God's handouts today. You might find a miracle of your own - be it caffeinated or not!

Now if only that barista could have miracled-away the calories... =)

What calories? It was non-fat, no whip. I refuse to consider there are calories in that!!! LOL (Can you tell I get those too, and I always order the grande. I'm bad!)

God is always so good. We are truly blessed to have Him as our Father! Enjoy every last drop of that God-given gift, Betsy Anne.

Hey Betsy! Your blog has perfectly illustrated my long-standing theory that the only coffee that I drink (the venerable white chocolate mocha) is a girl drink. Thanks for affirming that I am a little on the girly-man side.

I'm suddenly jonesing for Starbucks. Look what you've done!!!

Seriously though, it's so incredible when we begin to take note of all the little gifts God gives us every day. Humbling, too! Thank you, God. :)
