Prayers appreciated...

Tomorrow (Wednesday) my Little Miss has an eye doctor appointment. It's her first one, but sadly its not just a routine check-up. I suspect she's getting a lazy eye, or at least the beginning stages of something similiar. When she looks at an object up close, like a spoon in front of her face, etc. one of her eyes goes in toward her nose a little bit farther than the other. And sometimes when she's sleepy, it does that too. It doesn't wander all over, its just that one contained motion, but still. Its something I need to deal with now while we have options, before it gets worse.

But dealing with a two year old in a "scary place" like a doctor's office is going to be interesting, especially since her well visit to the pedatrician (complete with shots) is still fresh in her mind from a few weeks ago. They told us to expect two hours for the appointment in full, as it has to go in stages and her eyes have to be dilated twice during the morning. Ugh.

I'm sort of dreading it, not just for the pending tantrums or tears, or attempts to entertain in a waiting room that long - but also because of the results. What if they say she needs eye surgery? (worst case) Or has to wear a patch off and on for a few weeks/months to strengthen the muscles? (best case) Or glasses??? How do you keep glasses on a two year old?? I guess there is the possibility they won't be concerned with it at all but I sort of doubt it. I'm trying not to worry, but I'm a mom, so that's what I do best. I know God will be with us regardless of the outcome, and really this isn't a HUGE deal...but big enough for me. Prayers appreciated for both of us! :)

I'll give a report Thursday...

I'll be praying for you. If it is a lazy eye it can be treated with somethig caller vision therapy (vt) look it up online. It's like physical therapy for you eyes. I did it for two years because I couldn't cross my eyes. It really helps. The place I went to did a lot of work with little kids & games with red & green glasses, they made it fun for them. I know they talked about people with lazy eyes and other things too. Like did you know that most people with dyslexia aren't truly dyslexic they just have eye problems!

Hi Betsy - I can completely relate. My daughter has a variety of special needs and for a while, we thought patching or glasses might be something we would need to do. Every 6 months we would head to the eye dr. and I would be braced for anything. Each time, he said it wasn't bad enough to do anything and we'd see if corrected itself. She's 7 1/2 now. Still no glasses or patches.
I commented to the doctor once that I didn't think I could handle either option - how would I make her wear the glasses or keep a patch on when she doesn't tolerate a bandaid? He's a believer and he smiled at me and said "You'd be fine. God never gives us more than we can handle. He never gives our kids more than they can handle either."
Praying for a calm visit, kind nurses and a deep and abiding peace, regardless of the outcome.

My youngest daughter has a lazy eye and she started patching when she was a toddler. It wasn't fun - for her or us but she was such a trooper. We tried to patch her when she was home for the most part so she didn't experience stares.

She still has a little bit of a lazy eye and they say she may always. She's 11 now and after glasses for awhile, she's now in contacts.

Hang in there. You are right to check into it now.
